October 27, 2024 – Emporia State conceded a pair of first-half goals on the road against Central Missouri as the Hornets fell 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Hornets began the match by attempting to handle early pressure from the Jennies, but Central Missouri broke through on their first shot of the match. In the ninth minute, a loose ball deep in Emporia State's half of the pitch fell to the Jennies who converted, taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
Emporia State's first shot came in the 21st minute and was followed by a pair of corner kicks. The next opportunity in the match again went to Central Missouri as the Jennies doubled their lead with a goal from Caroline Cole in the 28th minute. The score remained 2-0 through the rest of the half as the Jennies had ten shots in to just one from the Hornets, which came from
Sade Lee.
Following the break, Emporia State handled the pressure from Central Missouri well, as they recorded 12 shots in the second half, but kept the Jennies from increasing their total. The Hornets were able to generate just two second half shots, as they fell to the Jennies 2-0.
In addition to the shot from Lee in the first half, the two shots in the second half came from
Abby Bachman and
Ella Ruliffson.
Emporia State will be back in action on Friday, November 1 as they host Missouri Western from the ESU Pitch. Kickoff between the Hornets and Griffons is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
