Emporia State Volleyball Sweeps Missouri Southern for Third Straight Win

Seven different Hornets record a kill as the Hornets hit over .300 in the final two sets

October 19, 2024 - Emporia State volleyball limited Missouri Southern to just .092 hitting as the Hornets rolled to a sweep on Saturday against the Lions.

The Hornets got off to an early 8-5 lead that eventually grew to 14-8 in the first set before Missouri Southern rallied to take a 17-16 lead, forcing an Emporia State timeout. After the timeout, the Hornets scored nine of the final 12 points to take the opening set 25-20.

In set two, Emporia State again had an early lead that was erased in the middle of the set by Missouri Southern as a 6-1 scoring run gave the hosts a 17-14 lead over the Hornets. After the run by the Lions, the Hornets responded with six straight points to regain a 20-17 advantage. Missouri Southern attempted to rally, scoring two consecutive points, before Emporia State closed the set on a 5-1 run to clinch the second 25-20.

Emporia State hit over .300 in the second set and continued their play into the third frame. The Hornets jumped ahead 11-6 and later in the set leading 16-11, the Hornets closed out the match with a 9-3 scoring run to clinch the third 25-14 as they hit .310.

The Hornets hit .258 in the match and had seven Hornets record a kill in the match. Rayishon Jackman finished with a match-high 12 kills on .273 hitting while Weronika Wrzesisnka and Camilla Ossola had eight and seven kills respectively. Jackman and Willow Deckinger each had 12 digs and Mia Frisbie had a match-high six total blocks on defense. 

Emporia State will return home to begin a five-match homestand on Saturday, October 26 against Washburn. First serve for the Turnpike Tussle between the Hornets and Ichabods is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
