October 11, 2024 - Emporia State was nearly took the first set against third-ranked Nebraska-Kearney before ultimately falling in three sets against the undefeated Lopers.
In the first set, the Hornets and Lopers traded points early before Emporia State took a 11-7 lead, their largest of the set, which forced Nebraska-Kearney to call timeout. After the break, the Lopers rallied to scored six of the next seven points to take a 13-12 lead over the Hornets. Emporia State pulled even at 13-13 but were unable to retake the lead, as Nebraska-Kearney extended their advantage in the set to 21-17, forcing a Hornet timeout. The Hornets pulled back within 22-21, but came up short in their push, ultimately dropping the set 25-22. The Lopers were limited to .167 hitting by the Hornets, but Emporia State hit just .150 on their own.
Emporia State was limited in attack over the next two sets, hitting -.026 in both the second and third frames. The Lopers used this to their advantage, taking both set two and three 25-14 over the Hornets. The Hornets held the Lopers to just .219 hitting, more than 50 points below their season average, but could not muster enough offense on their own.
Weronika Wrzesinska led the way with nine kills, while
Camilla Ossola had seven of her own.
Brailee Bogle had 26 assists in the match and added three kills on a team-high .286 hitting in the match.
The Hornets will be back in action on Saturday, October 12 as their road trip moves to Fort Hays State. First serve between the Hornets and Tigers is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
