October 11, 2024 – Emporia State soccer fell on Friday afternoon against Pittsburg State 1-0 following an early second half goal for the visiting Gorillas.
Both teams combined for three corner kicks through the first five minutes before the first shot of the match came from
Megyn Mahloch in the 13th minute, which missed to the right. Emporia State finished the first half with two shot attempts, neither of which were on target to force a save from the Pittsburg State goalkeeper.
The Gorillas had five in the first half, with three forcing a save from
Mackenzi Goen.
At the half, the score remained 0-0. Following the halftime break, the first opportunity came from the Hornets, a shot by
Mia Sandvig that forced a save the Pittsburg State keeper. In the 54th minute, the Gorillas broke through to take a 1-0 lead. After gaining possession in their own half, Pittsburg State countered and scored on a shot from the top of the box.
The Hornets would out shoot the Gorillas over the final 36 minutes, and forced two more saves, but were unable to pull level as they fell 1-0 on Friday.

Emporia State will be back in action on Sunday, October 13 as they host Missouri Southern for Senior Day. Kickoff against the Lions is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
