September 7, 2023 – Emporia State Volleyball fell in the opening match of the Missouri S&T Tournament against the host Miners 3-1.
In the opening set, the Hornets dropped the first two points before rattling off a 10-2 scoring run which gave Emporia State a 1-0 advantage over Missouri S&T. The Hornets continued to keep the Miners at a distance throughout the set as they held on for a 25-19 win in the first set to take a 1-0 lead over the hosts.
Emporia State once again opened an early lead against Missouri S&T, with the Hornets leading 9-4. The Miners eventually rallied to take a 22-20 lead over the Hornets late in the set. The Hornets quickly scored three consecutive points to regain the lead 23-22 but Missouri S&T put together a final rally to even the match 1-1 with a 27-25 win in set two.
After falling in set three, Emporia State looked to even the match as they eventually held a 22-20 lead late in the fourth set. Missouri S&T was able to rally again to take the fourth set 26-24 and the match 3-1 over the Hornets.
Emporia State posted a .191 hitting percentage in the match compared to a .183 percentage from the Miners.
Sandora Sasaki led the Hornets with 13 kills on .175 hitting. Brailee
Bogle tallied 41 assists and nine digs in defense.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, September 8 as they take on Lake Superior State. The match is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in Rolla, Mo.
