Five wins on Friday at ITA Regionals for Emporia State men's tennis

Anton Sarunic goes 3-0 combined in singles and doubles for ESU on first day

September 15, 2023-Anton Sarunic was 3-0 on the day to highlight Friday's action for the Emporia State tennis team at the ITA Regional in Topeka.
 
Sarunic won both of his singles matches in the A Flight on Friday to advance to the round of 16 on Saturday.  He defeated Thomas Kano of Augustana (SD) 6-3, 6-2 in his first match and then came back to defeat Southeastern Oklahoma's Juan Gonzalez 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) in the afternoon. He would also win in doubles as he teamed with Gwendal Mazuay to win in  a tiebreaker 9-8 (8-6) over a team from Southern Arkansas.
 
Two other Hornets picked up wins on Friday.  Dominic Simunovic won 6-3, 6-1 over Ouachita Baptist's Ramon Strassmann while Sergio Vera Martin picked up a win by injury withdrawal over Adam Palecek of Neb.-Kearney.  Both would fall in the second round.
 
Action continues on Saturday at the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka with Sarunic taking on Washburn's Tommaso Cecchetti for a chance to go the quarterfinals.  Sarunic and Mazuay will play a team form Ouachita Baptist in the afternoon doubles round of 16.
