April 25, 2023-Emporia State will induct 49 student-athletes into the Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society during a ceremony on Tuesday, April 25. The national non-profit organization recognizes athletes who excel both on and off the field of competition.

Student-athletes must have achieved the rank of junior or senior, attended Emporia State for two or more semesters, achieved a 3.4 cumulative GPA or higher and earned a varsity letter.

"As the National Athletic Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma is a way to recognize our student-athletes off the court, field, or track. The 49 student-athletes that we will be inducting into Chi Alpha Sigma have proven that they are just as competitive in the classroom as they are during athletic competitions," said Emporia State Faculty Athletic Representative Terri Summey.  "As the liaison between athletics and academics, I am extremely proud of these students and their achievements in the classroom along with their achievements in academics. The DII mantra is "Life in the Balance" and the academic success of our student-athletes show that for them they are students first."

The mission and objectives of Chi Alpha Sigma are to encourage and reward high academic scholarship of college athletes at four-year accredited colleges and universities; to recognize outstanding academic achievement by intercollegiate varsity letter winners; to encourage good citizenship, moral character and friendship among the high academic achievers in college athletics; to recognize and honor the individual athlete, his/her team, sport, athletic department, and college or university; to mentor and to provide leadership to other athletes.

The honor society was founded in 1996 by then DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis. His goal was to provide outstanding student-athletes with an opportunity to become connected within a fraternal association that aligns their educational and athletic successes for a lifetime.
The ceremony will be available as a free to view event on the MIAA Network.
