Emporia State women's tennis falls to #49 Northeastern State

Hornets to end season on Saturday against UCO at Kossover

April 14, 2023-Emporia State one a doubles match but an injury default cost them a chance to win the point as they fell 7-0 to #49 Northeastern State on Friday afternoon at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.

Karen Santiago and Alexia Desmet picked up a 6-1 win at #2 doubles before the Hornets #3 team of Caroline Henry and Andrea Santiago fell 6-3. Anastasia Pesic and Angelina Gnezdilova were down a break at 4-2 to the #42 doubles team in the nation when Gnezdilova had to withdraw with an injury and the RiverHawks secured the point.

Pesic and Desmet each went three sets in their singles matches.  Playing at #1 Desmet fell to #15 Emilia Cosatto 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 while Pesic went down 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at #3.

With the loss Emporia State was eliminated from the MIAA Tournament.  They will end their season on Saturday against #27 Central Oklahoma.  First serve from the Kossover Family Tennis Complex is set for 2:00 p.m.  Seniors Alexia Desmet, Karen Santiago and Emma Biggs will be recognized after the match.
