December 30, 2023 – The Lady Hornets knocked down a season-high ten threes in 90-62 win over Bethel in their final game of 2023 on Saturday afternoon from White Auditorium.
The game began with a pair of free throws by
Faith Paramore, followed by a three from
Gracie Gilpin as the Lady Hornets jumped out to a 5-0 lead just over one minute into the action. Emporia State and Bethel traded baskets over the next few minutes as the Lady Hornets led 15-9 entering the first quarter media timeout.
Both teams continued to trade points over the remainder of the first quarter as Emporia State took a 23-17 lead over the Threshers entering the second frame.
In the second quarter, Emporia State put together an 21-6 scoring run that lasted just over seven minutes, with their largest advantage being 44-23 following a three from
Aliyah Bello with 3:16 remaining in the first half.
Bethel would outscored the Lady Hornets 10-7 over the final three minutes, but Emporia State took a 51-33 lead entering the halftime break, the third time this season the Lady Hornets have scored 50 points in a half.
Following the break, Emporia State slowed down offensively but limited the Threshers to just 35% shooting as the Lady Hornet lead never fell below 15 points in the third period. The Lady Hornets entered the fourth quarter leading Bethel 68-50.
In the fourth quarter, Emporia State outscored Bethel 22-12, with their largest lead coming at the 1:13 mark, a 90-60 advantage following an
Elizabeth Milligan three.
The Lady Hornets closed out the game with a 90-62 win over Bethel in their final game of 2023.
Emporia State shot 10-30 from three, their first game with ten threes this season as they shot 42.7% from the floor and 16-20 from the free throw line.
Faith Paramore scored a game-high 24 points to set a new career-high while also securing 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
Aliyah Bello scored in double-digits for the first time this season with 17 points on 7-13 shooting and 3-6 from three.
The Lady Hornets will return to action following the New Year with an MIAA matchup against Newman on Wednesday, January 3. Tipoff from White Auditorium is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
