November 27, 2023-Five Lady Hornets reached double figures as Emporia State hit the century mark for the 76th time in school history during a 100-37 win over Avila on Monday night in White Auditorium.

Emporia State trailed 7-6 midway through the first quarter when
Gracie Gilpin hit a pair of three-pointers around a trey from
Allie Ostermann for a 9-0 run in under a minute to take a 15-7 lead with 4:10 left. The Eagles got back within three points but the Lady Hornets scored the final 11 points of the period to take a 26-12 lead into the second quarter.

Tylieea Wallace scored inside to extend the run to 13-0 as the Lady Hornets led 28-12 just 14 seconds into the second quarter. Wallace then scored six points during a half ending 8-0 to give Emporia State a 52-21 lead at the break.

Emporia State shot a blistering 66.7% from the field in the second quarter and finished the half shooting 53.8% overall and 46.2% from the three-point line. The Lady Hornets capitalized on nine Avila turnovers to outscore the Eagles 19-2 off turnovers.

Marlie Wright hit a free throw 20 seconds into the third quarter and the Eagles would not score again until just ten seconds were left in the period. In the interim the Lady Hornets went on a 23-0 run to take a 75-24 lead into the final period.

A 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 61 at 85-24 with 7:19 left. A
Macy Smith layup gave Emporia State their biggest lead of the night at 98-34 with 1:02 left and Smith scored again with 32 seconds remaining to crack triple digits.

Faith Paramore had her second double-double of the year with 18 points, ten rebounds, five assists and two steals. She was joined in double figures by
Tylieea Wallace with 16 points,
Katie Horyna with 15 and
Gracie Gilpin with 14 points – all career highs – while
Stevie Stinchcomb scored ten points.
Queen Ulabo just missed a double-double with nine points and a career high 12 rebounds.

MIAA play begins on Saturday, December 2 when the Lady Hornets play host to Washburn. Tip-off for the Turnpike Tussle is tentatively set for 1:30 p.m. at White Auditorium.

This was the 76th time Emporia State has scored at least 100 points in a game and the first time since a 103-102 double overtime win at Lindenwood on November 17, 2021. It is the first time the Lady Hornets have reached 100 points in regulation since a 107-45 win at Rogers State on February 13, 2020.
