THIRD TIME IS THE CHARM
Emporia State set for postseason matchup against Bemidji State for the third consecutive season.

LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State took down Fort Hays State 2-1 in the first round behind two goals from Mackenzie Dimarco on Friday afternoon.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 120-87-34 in his 12th season at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history and fifth winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 178-110-36 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to nine straight .500 or better regular seasons, six straight MIAA Tournaments and three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. 
Jim Stone is 249-133-45 in his 22nd season at BSU. He is 2-0 against ESU.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 13-5-4 on the season and finished 8-2-1 in the MIAA. The Hornets clinched their second MIAA Tournament championship in the past three seasons. Emporia State ranks top five in the MIAA in points, goals and assists this season. Mackenzie Dimarco is leading the nation with 21 goals on the season as she was unanimously named MIAA Offensive Player of the Year. Hadlie Lowe has six goals while Hannah Woolery and Anna Burnett both have four of their own. The Hornet defense is anchored by Joanie Westcoat, Abby Bachman and Aubree Blackman. Westcoat has played all 1980 minutes so far this season. In midfield along with Woolery, Angela Palmer has started all 22 matches and is fourth on the Hornets with 17 shots. 

ABOUT BEMIDJI STATE
The Beavers have taken a similar path to the Hornets this season. Bemidji State is 13-3-6 on the season and finished fourth in the NSIC with 7-3-4 mark in conference play. The Beavers had three players on both First and Second Team All-NSIC led by Halle Peterson who was named NSIC Defensive Player of the Year. As a team, Bemidji State is outscoring opponents 34-14 and are allowing just nine shots per game by opponents. In attack, Katrina Barthelt leads the way with 12 goals on the season while six more players have scored multiple goals, including First Team All-NSIC honoree Maria Stocke who scored five goals of her own.

SERIES HISTORY
Bemidji State leads the all-time series 2-0 against Emporia State with both meeting coming in the postseason in each of the last two seasons.

LAST TIME VS. THE BEAVERS
Emporia State traveled to the far north in Bemidji, Minn. for a regional championship matchup against the Beavers in their home stadium. In a wintery storm, the Hornets and Beavers were tied 1-1 after full-time and overtime despite a 24-13 shot advantage for Emporia State. The Hornets eventually fell to the Beavers 3-1 in penalty kicks.

The winner of the second round matchup between the Hornets and Beavers will advance to the Central Region Championship. The Central Region and Midwest championship matches will be hosted by the highest remaining seed in the Midwest Region.
