November 18, 2023-The Lady Hornets forced 24 turnovers and put four players in double figures on the way to a 66-57 win over Bellevue on Saturday night in White Auditorium.
The Bruins scored the first five points of the game and the Lady Hornets scored the final four points of the quarter as the teams were tied at 15 after the first.
Faith Paramore scored inside just 11 seconds into the second quarter to give Emporia State their first lead.
Bellevue still had a three point lead after Ashytn Arnold grabbed a rebound and went coast to coast with 4:42 left in the half. Emporia State closed the half on an 11-0 run capped by a Paramore jumper with 1:11 remaining to take a 32-24 lead into the break.
Gracie Gilpin hit a three-pointer with 5:12 left in the third quarter to give the Lady Hornets their largest lead of the night at 40-27. The Bruins went on an 11-5 run to cut the deficit back to seven points at 45-38 with 1:30 left in the third. On the next possession Emporia State got a pair of offensive rebounds before
Queen Ulabo was fouled and hit two free throws to push the lead back to 47-38. The Bruins would not get closer than eight points the rest of the night.
Queen Ulabo had 21 points and ten rebounds for her first double-double as a Lady Hornet. She was joined in double figures by
Faith Paramore with 13 points, while
Allie Ostermann had 12 on four made three-pointers and
Tylieea Wallace added ten points.
The Lady Hornets will have a week off from competition before taking their first road trip of the season next Saturday. Emporia State will travel to Wayne, Neb. on November 25 to take on Wayne State. Tip-off in Rice Auditorium is set for 5:00 p.m.
