November 11, 2023 – The Emporia State Lady Hornets dropped their second game in the MIAA-GAC Challenge 65-54 against Harding on Saturday afternoon.
Emporia State shot just 26.8% from the floor and 20% from three against the Bison.
In the first quarter, Harding scored the first seven points of the game before a jump shot from
Faith Paramore got Emporia State on the board with 6:45 remaining in the first quarter. Emporia State was unable to trim the Bisons lead to one possession through the quarter as Harding led the Lady Hornets 18-14 through one.
The Lady Hornets trimmed the deficit to just one with the first basket of the second quarter, which came on a
Stevie Stinchcomb three, to make the score 18-17 with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half.
After trading points for much of the second quarter, Emporia State took their first lead of the game, 30-29, on a
Gracie Gilpin three with 2:52 left in the half.
Harding was able to score the final six points of the half as they took a 35-30 lead into the halftime break over the Lady Hornets.
In the first half, Emporia State shot just over 30% from the floor and went 4-16 from three.
The Lady Hornets opened the third quarter with a 10-4 scoring run, highlighted by eight points from
Faith Paramore, to regain the lead 40-39 over the Bisons.
Harding outscored Emporia State 8-5 over the final five minutes of the quarter to lead 47-45 entering the final frame.
In the fourth, the Lady Hornets struggled offensively, shooting just 2-16 from the floor as the Bisons outscored Emporia State 18-9 to take the game 65-54 on Saturday afternoon.
Faith Paramore scored 19 points for the Lady Hornets and added 12 rebounds for a double-double, the first of her career.
Emporia State will return to action on Saturday, November 18 from White Auditorium as they take on Bellevue University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
