October 6, 2023-On a record setting day at the Jones Park Course, the Emporia State men came away with the individual and team championships while the Hornet women had a top five individual and team finish at the ESU Invitational.

Jaime Diaz won the men's individual title in record setting fashion as he led the Emporia State men to the team title in a tiebreaker over Fort Hays State.  Diaz ran 24:43.70 to break the previous course record by six seconds and finish 13 seconds in front of runner-up Grant Bradley of Fort Hays State.  Henry Jones turned in the ninth fastest time in course history as he ran 25:35.64 to place third. FHSU's Ethan Fisher placed seventh before Colorado Christian's Samuel Schwarting became the only non-Hornet or Tiger to place in the top ten.  Asher Moen ran 26:06.03 for ninth and Luke Gleason finished in 26:15.25 for tenth as all five Emporia State scorers finished in the top ten.   The Hornets won the tiebreaker 3-2 as the fifth Tiger placed 11th overall.

In the first race of the day, Tayler Williams once again finished as the top Hornet runner. Her time of 17:49.27  bettered the previous course record by over 20 seconds but was only good enough for fourth place on Friday afternoon.  Regan Hodsden of Fort Hays State shattered the previous record by 37 seconds, finishing in 17:34.79 to lead the Tigers to the women's team title.
