October 13, 2023 – Emporia State fell to #8 Central Missouri 1-0 on Friday afternoon from the ESU Pitch.
Early in the match, both teams looked to gain their footing as both the Hornets and Jennies earned corner kicks within the first seven minutes. Central Missouri recorded the first shot of the match in the ninth minute.
The first shot for the Hornets came in the 13
th minute as
Mackenzie Dimarco forced a save from the Jennies goalkeeper.
Central Missouri outshot the Hornets 9-4, but the Emporia State backline held off the Jennies in the first half as the match entered the halftime break tied 0-0.
Following the break, Central Missouri recorded the first two shots, including an opportunity in the 52
nd minute that forced a save from
Katie Stoskopf.
The Jennies would break through in the 72
nd minute as they scored off a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead over the Hornets.
Emporia State was able to record three more shots in the final 18 minutes but were held off the scoreboard as the Hornets fell to the #8 Jennies 1-0.
Mackenzie Dimarco tallied four shots while
Hannah Woolery,
Anna Burnett and
Joanie Westcoat each recorded one of their own.
Emporia State returns to action on Sunday, October 15 as they are scheduled to take on Missouri Southern. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. from the ESU Pitch.
