Pittsburg State responded with eight of the next nine points to open a 15-12 lead over the Hornets. Following an Emporia State timeout, the Hornets went on an 8-2 run which included three kills from Zuzanna Buchnajzer as Emporia State reclaimed the lead 20-17 over Pittsburg State. Pittsburg State rallied one final time to take a 24-22 lead as they were one point from taking the set. The Hornets were able to hold off two set points before the Gorillas eventually took the first set 27-25.

Early in the second set, Pittsburg State held a 5-4 lead before the Hornets scored nine of the next 11 points as they led 13-7 over the Gorillas for their largest lead of the night. The scoring runs continued to add up as the Hornets went on a 5-2 run to take a 20-18 lead which forced a Pittsburg State timeout.
