3 FOR 3; DIMARCO WITH HAT TRICK AS EMPORIA STATE SOCCER DEFEATS NWMSU 3-2

Fourth career hat trick for Dimarco

September 30, 2022-All-American Mackenzie Dimarco recorded her second hat trick of the season as Emporia State defeated Northwest Missouri 3-2 on Friday afternoon on the ESU Pitch.

The Bearcats got on the board just over nine minutes into the match.  Adell Gore sent a cross from the corner of the box to Kaylie Rock in front of the goal and she snuck it past Tori Bailey to give NWMSU a 1-0 lead.

Dimarco scored the equalizer for the Hornets in the 31st minute.  Erica Self cut off a clearing pass and hit Dimarco streaking down the field. She got past one defender and put the ball in the upper left side of the goal to make it 1-1.  She gave Emporia State a 2-1 lead just ten minutes later.  She got the ball about 75 yards away from the goal and took off up field.  She split two defenders about 45 yards out and then beat Bearcat keeper Lily Ellis one on one with shot into the right side of the goal as the Hornets took a 2-1 lead to the half.

The Bearcats would tie the game in the 55th minute.  Rock took a shot from the top of the box that Bailey was able to block but Sophie Cissell was there to put the rebound in for the Bearcats and tie the score at 2-2.

With just under 11 minutes left in the match Self took a shot from the right side that Ellis blocked but Dimarco was able to outrace the defender to the goal and put it inside the left post to give the Hornets a 3-2 lead.  Emporia State survived three shots from Northwest Missouri in the final eight minutes, with Bailey making a save on a free kick from 35 yards out with just over two and a half minutes left.  The Hornets were then able to play keep away the final two minutes to preserve the win.

Emporia State outshot Northwest 13-10 overall with a 10-6 advantage on goal.
