Hannah Woolery scored the equalizer in the 74
th minute to give Emporia State their third straight draw to open MIAA play in a 1-1 tie at Rogers State on Sunday afternoon.
The Hillcats opened the scoring with a goal off a corner kick in the 34
th minute of action on just the third shot of the match for Rogers State. They would take the 1-0 lead into halftime although the Hornets outshot Rogers State 7-5 in the opening 45 minutes.
Emporia State would dominate the second half of action, with a 15-2 advantage on shots and a 9-1 lead in corner kicks. The Hornets would tie the match in the 74
th minute following a corner kick when
Angela Palmer was able to direct a loose ball to Woolery who put it in the lower right corner to make it 1-1.
The Hornets would get four more shots and four corners in the final 11 minutes but could not find the net as they tied a school record for consecutive ties in a season.
After playing nine of their first ten matches on the road, the Hornets will finish the season with six of eight on the ESU Pitch starting on Friday, September 30 against Northwest Missouri. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
NOTES
The three consecutive draws ties the school record first set in 2010 against Missouri Southern (1-1), Northwest Missouri (3-3) and Truman (1-1).
The four ties are the most in a season for Emporia State since they had five in the 2014 season on the way to a 7-7-5 finish.
This is the first time in school history the Hornets have started MIAA play with three consecutive draws.
