TOUR OF I-35
Emporia State travels south on I-35 for a pair of MIAA matchups against Central Oklahoma and Newman. Central Oklahoma is receiving votes in the latest AVCA Division II Coaches Poll.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets traveled east into the Show Me State as they took on William Jewell in their final non-conference matchup of the season. Emporia State defeated the Cardinals in a five set back and forth battle which included the Hornets fighting off four straight set points in the third set.
THE COACHES
Bing Xu is in his 17th season as head coach for Emporia State. He holds a record of 297-222 and has led the Hornets to five NCAA Tournament appearances. He is 8-18 against Central Oklahoma and 9-2 against Newman.
Edgar Miraku is 232-79 in his 11th year at UCO. He is 17-3 against Emporia State.
Marisa Compton is 6-7 in her first season at Newman. This is her first meeting against ESU.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 4-9 this season and 1-3 in the MIAA. In attack, the Hornets have a trio of players averaging above two kills per set.
Leah Mach leads the way with 132 kills and is averaging 2.75 per set.
Orianna Clements is close behind Mach with 113 kills.
Shelby Ebert has recorded 107 kills of her own at 2.23 per set. Ebert also plays a large role in defense for the Hornets as she ranks third in digs with 125 at 2.60 per set. At setter,
Riley Bernskoetter and
Ainslee Stepp combine for 8.61 assists per set with 218 and 187 on the season respectively. In addition, a pair of newcomers have made an impact for the Hornets in
Caydence Doebele and
Zuzanna Buchnajzer. Doebele has impacted Emporia State through the middle as she is second on the Hornets with 20 blocks on the season. Buchnajzer has recorded 70 kills on the outside while adding 15 blocks of her own.
SCOUTING CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
The Bronchos are 13-1 on the season and have started 3-1 in the MIAA. The UCO attack is led by freshman Sydney Huck who leads the MIAA in kills with 218 and is averaging the most per set at 4.36. In addition to Huck, who is hitting .302 this season, Jenna Karp has 125 kills and is hitting .307 to rank ninth in the MIAA. In defense, Jaedynn Evans leads the nation in digs and digs per set with 353 on the season at 6.66 per set.

LAST TIME VS. THE BRONCHOS
Last season, the Hornets traveled to UCO on Halloween weekend. Emporia State stole the first set from the Bronchos before Central Oklahoma responded to win the next three and take the victory 3-1 over the Hornets.
SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets are 6-7 and 1-3 in the MIAA. In attack, Newman is led by Riley Daugherty with 170 kills and she is averaging 3.09 kills per set. Mckinzie Weaver ranks third in the MIAA with 580 assists and 10.55 per set. In defense, the Jets are led by Natalie Morales who is averaging 4.96 per set. At the net, Ozioma Ajekwu leads the way with 62 total blocks.

Last season, the Hornets took on the Jets in Wichita in a match that Newman took 3-0 over Emporia State.

In addition to her presence in attack, she is tied for second on the Hornets with 20 total blocks and ranks third in digs with 125 on the season.

Orianna Clements (Sr./Stillwater, Okla.) ranks second on the Hornets this season for Emporia State with 113 kills. She also ranks second with 2.35 kills per set and has recorded a .217 hitting percentage so far this season.
MACH SPEED
Leah Mach (So./Lincoln, Neb.) is currently leading the way this seaon with 132 kills and is averaging 2.75 per set. Mach is pacing the Hornets with 147 points and is averaging just above three per set. She posted a career-high 18 kills in the Emporia State four set victory over Southeastern Oklahoma. On the defensive side, Mach is second on the team with 134 digs and has added eight blocks.

Riley Bernskoetter (Sr./Jefferson City, Mo.) leads the way for Emporia State's two setters with 218 on the season and 4.54 per set. Bernskoetter is 61 assists away from 1,000 in her career with 939 assists. Bernskoetter also ranks fourth on the team with 90 digs on the season.
STEPP TO SET
Ainslee Stepp (So./Kansas City, Mo.) has joined Bernskoetter as part of the two-setter system and has 187 assists on the season while also averaging above four per set at 4.07. Stepp ranks fifth on the team with 69 digs in defense.

Dorianne Lebron (Gr./Guayama, Puerto Rico) has played in 40 of 48 sets this season for Emporia State. Lebron has tallied 40 kills in the middle with a .153 hitting percentage. The true impact is felt on the defensive side as she is leading the way for the Hornets with 22 blocks this season after leading the way with 64 total blocks in 2021.

Megan Stretton (Jr./Topeka, Kan.) has played outside hitter for the Hornets in the past but has transitioned to libero this seaon. This transition has led Stretton to play in all 48 sets this seaon. She leads Emporia State with 221 digs and her rate of 4.60 digs per set ranks sixth in the MIAA.
POLISH PRESENCE
Zuzanna Buchnajzer (So./Lodz, Poland) has made her presence felt as a rotation player on the outside for the Hornets. Buchnajzer has appeared in 41 of 48 sets for Emporia State and has tallied 70 kills with 1.71 per set and has added 15 blocks on the season as she ranks fourth in all three categories for Emporia State.
WINNING HARRIS
Winny Harris (Jr./Atchison, Kan.) has become a threat through the middle for the Hornets in the last few matches. In the last three matches, with two coming against ranked opponents, Harris has recorded 24 kills and while hitting .476.
NEW STRAWN NEWCOMER
Caydence Doebele (Fr./New Strawn, Kan.) has started eight matches for the Hornets and has appeared in 27 sets on the season. Doebele has recorded 28 kills for the Hornets and is hitting .134. She ranks second on the team with 20 blocks on the season.
TOUGH TEST
Prior to the match against William Jewell, the Hornets played four matches in seven days with three against ranked opponents. Emporia State is now entering five straight road matches against MIAA opponents.
MIAA MAGNITUDE
Four MIAA teams are currently ranked in the top 25 with one team receiving votes in the latest poll. This total is only topped by the Northern Sun who have five teams currently ranked inside the top 25. Despite nine ranked teams and two receiving votes, the Central Region can only have eight teams make the 64 team NCAA Tournament.
