SOONER STATE SHOWDOWNS
Emporia State travels to Oklahoma City for the UCO-OC Classic hosted by Okla. Christian and Central Okla. The Hornets take on Southern Nazarene and host Okla. Christian on Friday before playing St. Mary's and Southeastern Okla. on Saturday in Edmond.

LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State traveled to St. Louis for the UMSL Tournament and fell in four sets in both matches on Friday. The Hornets then split their two matches on Saturday to get their first win of the season against Southern Arkansas in four sets.

THE COACHES
Bing Xu is in his 17th season as head coach for Emporia State. He holds a record of 294-216 and has led the Hornets to five NCAA Tournament appearances.
Kevin Ingram is 415-320 in his 22nd season at Southern Nazarene.
Jason Skoch is 15-18 in his second season at Oklahoma Christian.
Laura Ulrich is 14-15 in her second season as head coach at St Mary's.
Nicole Solum-Mitchell is 12-47 in her third season as head coach at Southeastern Oklahoma.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 1-3 and is led by Shelby Ebert and Orianna Clements in attack. Ebert has 38 kills and Clements has tallied 37. Ebert also leads the way with a .230 hitting percentage. Riley Bernskoetter leads the way with 70 assists from the setter position. In addition to Bernskoetter's total, Ainslee Stepp also has 50 assists through the first four matches as the two combine for over eight assists per set. In defense, Megan Stretton leads the way with 71 digs at nearly five per set while Ebert and Caydence Doebele each have seven blocks to lead the Hornets.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
The Crimson Storm are 2-2 and are led by Sunny Batschelett and Whitney Bowie who each have 40 or more kills on the season.
SERIES HISTORY
Emporia State leads the series 11-5 and had won six straight before last season's SNU win.

SCOUTING OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN
The Eagles began the season 3-1 with their lone loss coming in five sets. Setter Olivia Hessman leads the Eagles with 75 assists and 5.36 per set.
SERIES HISTORY
This is the first meeting between the Hornets and the Eagles.

SCOUTING ST. MARY'S
The Rattlers began the season 0-4 with a pair of ranked matchups in the opening weekend, including the season opener against MIAA foe #12 Northwest Missouri.
SERIES HISTORY
The Rattlers won the only other meeting between the two teams, taking a 3-2 win in San Antonio on August 28, 2004.

SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA
The Savage Storm are 1-3 through the first weekend after making the GAC Tournament last season.
SERIES HISTORY
The Hornets lead the series 4-1 after the Savage Storm won their first matchup in the series last season during opening weekend.

UP NEXT
Emporia State will return on Friday, September 9 to begin MIAA action against #10 Neb.-Kearney. First serve in White Auditorium is set for 6:00 p.m.

EBERT EXPERIENCE
Shelby Ebert (Sr./Topeka, Kan.) has led the Hornets in sets played in the last two full seasons and looks to use this experience to lead the Hornets in 2022. Through the opening weekend, Ebert has a team high 38 kills and .230 hitting percentage. In addition to her presence in attack, she has matched her 38 kills with 38 digs in defense while leading the way with seven total blocks.  

READY ORI NOT
Orianna Clements (Sr./Stillwater, Okla.) led the Hornets in kills during the 2021 season and is second through the opening weekend with 37 kills. Clements is averaging 2.47 kills per set and has a hitting percentage of .212 through four games. In defense she has seven digs and two blocks.

MACH SPEED
Leah Mach (So./Lincoln, Neb.) was third on the Hornets in kills during the 2021 season and is currently third through the opening weekend this season with 29 kills in four matches. Mach is also average 2.33 points per set and has four service aces. In addtion to her contributions in attack, she is second in digs with 43 and is averaging 2.87 per set while recording four total blocks.

FINDING DORI
Dorianne Lebron (Gr./Guayama, Puerto Rico) looks to continue her importance through the middle for the Hornets in 2022 as she led the Hornets with 64 blocks last season. Through four matches this season, she has recorded five total blocks. In attack, she has 20 kills and is hitting .182 through the opening weekend.

IN THE CLASSROOM
Last year, and for the 11th straight year, the Hornet Volleyball team earned the USMC/AVCA Academic Honor which honors schools with that maintain a team GPA above 3.30. In addition to this honor, five returning members were named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll last year while eight of the nine returning players were named to the 2021 Emporia State AD Honor Roll.

IN THE RANKINGS
The MIAA has three teams ranked in the top 11 of the AVCA National Poll this week and only the Northern Sun has more teams in the top 25 with six teams ranked between #6 and #25. Despite having 40% of this week's Top 25, the Central Region can only have eight teams make the 64 team NCAA Tournament.
