EMPORIA STATE BASEBALL ENDS SEASON AT #4 CENTRAL MISSOURI

Hornets fall to Mules 15-5 in seven innings

May 7, 2022 – Emporia State dropped game two of the Opening Round Series against Central Missouri 15-5 to complete their season.

The Hornets were able to get two runners on base in the first inning but were unable to score. In the bottom of the first, Central Missouri homered with two outs to take a 2-0 lead over Emporia State.

In the second inning, the Hornets cut the deficit in half. Chandler Bloomer drew a leadoff walk on four pitches to start the inning. After a lineout, Dylan Werries doubled down the left field line to score Bloomer from first base.

After a scoreless third inning from both teams, the Hornets came alive for a four-run fourth inning. Bloomer this time led off the inning with a hit by pitch before Jack Maki reached on an infield single. With two on and no outs, Dylan Werries laid down a sacrifice bunt which resulted in an error allowing Bloomer to score and Maki to advance to third base. After a stolen base from Werries, Mason Sturdy hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Maki and give Emporia State a 3-2 lead. In the next at-bat, Sam Chaput capped off the scoring with a two-run home run to give the Hornets a 5-2 lead.

In the fifth inning, the Mules bats came alive for an 11-run inning that included 11 hits and a pair of errors to take a 13-5 lead over the Hornets.

Emporia State was unable to score in the sixth or seventh innings while Central Missouri added a single run in both innings to claim the 15-5 victory in seven innings.

At the plate, the Hornets recorded six hits and a trio of walks and were led by TJ Racherbaumer who went 2-4 from the plate. Sam Chaput went 1-4 with a home run and two RBI.
