SUNDAY SPLIT FOR EMPORIA STATE TENNIS AGAINST ROCKHURST

Hornet women win 4-3, men fall 6-1

April 3, 2022-The Emporia State tennis teams split a pair of non-conference duals with Rockhurst on Sunday at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.  The Hornet women won 4-3 while the men dropped a 6-1 decision.

It came down to the final set but the Emporia State women were able to pull out a 4-3 victory over Rockhurst to start the day.
The Hornets lost 6-2 at #1 doubles but came back with two wins to take the point.  Paige Stranghoner and Anastasia Pesic won 6-2 at #2 while Kelsie Burr and Micaela McSpadden were victorious 6-4 at #3 doubles.
Victoria Mackova put Emporia State up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #6 singles before Rockhurst got a win at #3 to get on the board.  Stranghoner kept the Hornets in the lead with a 6-4, 6-2 win at #4 singles before the final three matches went to a third set.
Pesic fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at #2 and McSpadden lost 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 at #1 singles to tie the dual at 3-3.  In the final match on the courts, Andrea Santiago came through with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 win at #5 singles to give Emporia State the 4-3 win.
 
Rockhurst Men 6, ESU 1
The Hornets fell behind early and could not recover in a 6-1 loss to the Hawks.
Emporia State lost at both #1 and #2 doubles to give Rockhurst the point.  It was looking like a clean sweep as Andy Graf and Jaden Tredway were trailing 5-1 before they stormed back to win six straight games and take a 7-5 victory at #3 doubles.
The Hawks would win the first five singles matches to clinch the overall dual. Sergio Vera was able to come from behind at #4 singles to post a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) victory for the Hornets.
 
The Emporia State women will begin a three dual road swing on Wednesday at Wichita State before heading to Fort Hays State on Saturday and Neb.-Kearney on Sunday. The Hornet men will not return to action until Thursday, April 14 when they play host to Northwest Missouri in MIAA matches for both the men and women.
