EMPORIA STATE MEN GET WIN AT #1 DOUBLES TO HIGHLIGHT DUALS WITH NWMSU

Hornet men and women both fall 7-0 to nationally ranked Bearcats

April 14, 2022-The duo of Theo Belmonte and Sergio Vera picked up a win at men's #1 doubles but that would be the only win on the day for Emporia State as both the men and women fell to nationally ranked Northwest Missouri 7-0 on Thursday at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.
 
Belmonte and Vera won 6-4 at #1 doubles but the #18 Bearcats secured the point with wins at #2 and #3. Belmonte fell to #25 Franco Oliva 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) at #2 singles while Luiz Maia went three sets with Fabien Calloud before falling 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at #3.
 
In women's play Victoria Mackova and Karen Santiago Sanchez went to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (7-4) at #1 doubles as the #47 Bearcats won all three doubles matches. Micaela McSpadden took #64 Vera Alenicheva to a tiebreaker in the second set as she fell 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at #1 singles.
 
Emporia State is back in action on Saturday when they play host to Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle.  First serve from the Kossover Family Tennis Complex is set for 12:00 p.m.  The Ichabod men are ranked #16 and the women #47 in the latest ITA Collegiate National Rankings.
