April 29, 2022 – Emporia State fell to Central Oklahoma 15-1 in the first game of the series on Friday night.
The Hornets would replicate their recent first inning success from recent games with a run scored in the first inning on Friday.
Sam Chaput started the game with a leadoff infield single with two strikes before
Blake Carroll was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat.
Javier Pena came to the plate and laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position.
TJ Racherbaumer then singled into left field to put Emporia State on the board.
Central Oklahoma responded with a two out single to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning. Both teams were held scoreless in the second inning before the Bronchos offense took off, scoring in each of the next four innings, including an eight run fourth.
Emporia State recorded nine hits in the game and also drew nine walks but were unable push any more runs across as Central Oklahoma took the first game of the three-game series.
At the plate,
Mason Sturdy and
Sam Chaput each went 2-3.
TJ Racherbaumer went 1-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Emporia State will take on Central Oklahoma in game two of the series on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
