April 16, 2022-In the final home MIAA matches of the season at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex Emporia State was swept by nationally ranked Washburn. The Hornet men fell 7-0 to the #16 Ichabods while the Emporia State women dropped a 5-2 decision to the #59 Washburn women.
The Hornet women dropped #1 and #3 doubles to give the Ichabods the first point.
Kelsie Burr and
Micaela McSpadden were tied at 6-6 and did not finish out the set at #2 doubles. Emporia State would get two wins in singles action.
Viktoria Mackova won 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) at #5 singles and
Karen Santiago Sanchez took a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory at #2 singles.
Kelsie Burr would go to a third set at #6 singles before falling 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5).
The men's match started out good for the Hornets as
Theo Belmonte and
Sergio Vera picked up a 6-3 win at #1 doubles before the Ichabods won at #2 and #3 to take the doubles point. Emporia State had two of the singles matches go to a third set.
Harrison Brown lost 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 at #1 singles and
Jaden Tredway traded 6-1 sets before falling 11-9 in the tiebreaker.
Both the men and women have one more non-conference match at home. The Hornets will play host to McPherson on Monday, April 18 with both matches starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.
