March 29, 2022 – Emporia State fell 11-2 against Pittsburg State Tuesday evening in a midweek matchup.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before
Sam Chaput struck first. A leadoff single from
Chandler Bloomer was followed by a pair of strikeouts before Chaput came up with two outs and drove a ball over the left field wall to give Emporia State a 2-0 lead over Pittsburg State.
Following the Chaput home run, Pittsburg State would get one run back in the bottom of the third before taking the lead for good with five runs in the fourth inning. The Hornet bats struggled to create many opportunities for the remainder of the game as the Gorillas extended their lead into the late innings.
Sam Chaput led the offense going 2-4 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base. Four other Hornets recorded a hit in the game.
Emporia State will travel to the Sooner State this weekend for a three-game series against Rogers State in Claremore, Okla. from April 1-3. First pitch on Friday, Apr. 1 is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
