February 7, 2022-Emporia State wrapped up their three day stay in Arkadelphia, Ark. with a 3-2 loss to Cameron on Monday.

The Hornets got on the board first when
Brittanie Shepherd tripled with one out in the top of the third and came home on
Lexi Williams infield single. Williams stole second and went to third on single by
Abbey Ward before scoring on a sacfly by
McKensy Glass to give Emporia State a 2-0 lead.

Sydney Righi retired 13 of the first 15 batters she faced, allowing just one hit through 4.1 innings before Alyssa Deanda singled with one out in the bottom of the fifth. Kaiden Boren followed with a two run home run to tie the game at 2-2. Righi got a strike out immediately after the homer for the second out of the inning but then walked Mikayla Richmond. Richmond then stole second and went to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a single by Khmari Edwards to give the Aggies a 3-2 lead.

Emporia State would get the tying run on base in each of the final two innings, with Shepherd getting stranded on second in the bottom of the seventh.

Sydney Righi went 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts, suffering her first loss of the season.

Emporia State is scheduled to be back in action this weekend at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic in Bentonville, Ark. The Hornets are scheduled to play six games beginning with Harding on Friday, February 11 at 11:00 a.m.

Brittanie Shepherd saw her string of reaching base safely snapped at 12 plate appearances. She is batting .750 after five games this season.
