February 3, 2022-The Lady Hornets trailed by nine points after the first quarter before coming back for a 72-69 win at Northeastern State on Thursday night in Tahlequah, Okla.

Emporia State shot just 25% in the opening period, going four of 16 overall and just one of eight from beyond the three point line, while the RiverHawks hit on eight of 15 (53.3%) to take an 18-9 lead after the first quarter.

The percentages flipped as the Lady Hornets scored a season's best 27 second quarter. Emporia State used an 11-0 run in just over 90 seconds to turn a six point deficit into a five point advantage with 3:22 left in the half. Emporia State took a 36-32 lead into the break.

Northeastern State scored the first five points of the third quarter to retake the lead at 37-36 with 8:27 left. The teams would go back and forth for most of the period with the RiverHawks taking a 50-46 lead on layup from Zaria Collins with 21 seconds left.Â
Kali Martin was fouled on a three-pointer with 1.9 seconds left and she hit all three to as the Lady Hornets trailed 50-49 going to the fourth quarter.

The RiverHawks scored the first four points of the fourth to take a 54-49 lead with 8:10 left. Trailing by four, Emporia State used a 7-2 run capped by a pair of
Tre'Zure Jobe free throws to take a 60-59 lead with 3:36 left. Tess Talo Tomokino hit one of two free throws with 1:31 left to give the RiverHawks a 67-64 lead. After forcing a shot clock violation
Kali Martin drove the lane for a layup to pull the Lady Hornets within one at 67-66 with 29.2 seconds left. Collins missed two free throws with 27.6 left for Northeastern State and Emporia State called time out to advance the ball.
Victoria Price took the ball from the top of the key to the rim to give Emporia State a 68-67 lead with 17.8 seconds left. Jobe then hit two free throws with 8.9 left to give the Lady Hornets a three point lead. Maleeah Langstaff scored with 4.0 left to make it 70-69 and Martin hit two free throws with 1.6 left for the final score.

Ehlaina Hartman had her first career double-double with 24 points with a career high 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. She was joined in double figures by
Tre'Zure Jobe with 17 and
Kali Martin with 13 points.

Emporia State is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Rogers State. Tip-off from the Claremore Expo Center is set for 1:30 p.m.
