EMPORIA STATE MEN LEAD WIRE TO WIRE IN 79-65 WIN AT NORTHEASTERN STATE

Buchanan and Turner combine for 53 points in win

February 3, 2022-Emporia State's dynamic duo of Tray Buchanan and Jumah'Ri Turner combined for 53 points in the Hornets 79-65 win at Northeastern State on Thursday night in Tahlequah, Okla.
 
Emporia State jumped out to an 11-2 lead four minutes into the game and the RiverHawks would never get closer than two possessions the rest of the night.  Buchanan would score six of the 11 points in the game opening run.
 
The Hornets led 29-17 with 7:16 left in the half when the RiverHawks went on a 7-0 run over the next four minutes to get within five points at 29-24.  Emporia State answered with an 8-0 run of their own to go up 37-24 with 1:03 left in the half before settling into a 40-26 lead at the break.
 
Emporia State took their biggest lead of the night at 56-38 on a layup following a Turner steal that led to a Northeastern State timeout with 14:23 left.  The RiverHawks methodically cut the lead down to ten points at 64-54 with 8:10 left. Turner responded with a personal 7-0 run and his layup with 5:36 left gave the Hornets a 71-54 lead. From their Emporia State coasted to the 79-65 road win.
 
Tray Buchanan led Emporia State with 32 points, his seventh game with at least 30 points this season, while Jumah'Ri Turner scored 21 points.  They were joined in double figures by Kaden Evans who went five of nine from the three-point line for 15 points.
 
The Hornets, now 16-5, 11-4 in the MIAA, are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Rogers State.  Tip-off from the Claremore Expo Center in Claremore, Okla. is set for 3:30 p.m.

Jumah'Ri Turner now has 1,184 points to rank 17th on the Emporia State all-time scoring list.
