JOBE GAME WINNER GIVES LADY HORNETS 79-77 WIN OVER WASHBURN

Emporia State scores final four points of the game for the win

February 26, 2022-Emporia State gave up a 17 point third quarter lead to trail by two with under a minute before Tre'Zure Jobe hit a game winner with 2.6 seconds left to give the Lady Hornets a 79-77 win over Washburn on Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium.
 
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 14-1 lead thanks to ten points from Ehlaina Hartman in the first 4:12 of the game.  The Ichabods responded with a 10-2 run of their own to cut the lead to five with 3:25 left in the quarter.  Emporia State scored the final five points of the period to go up 21-11 heading into the second quarter.
 
The teams played even through most of the second quarter.  A three-pointer from Kylee Scheer jump started a 7-4 run over the final 1:08 for Emporia State as they took a 44-31 lead to the half.
 
Victoria Price scored following an offensive rebound with 8:05 remaining in the third to give the Lady Hornets their biggest lead of the night at 17 points.  Washburn would use a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 52-45 with 5:16 left in the third.  The lead would go above double digits the rest of the game as Emporia State led 63-57 after three quarters.
 
Emporia State led 75-69 following a Kali Martin put back with 4:57 left.  The Lady Hornets would then go on a 4:19 scoreless drought.  The Ichabods would eight points during that time and Abby Oliver's layup with 1:30 left gave them a 77-75 lead.
 
Jobe missed a jumper with 1:19 left and Washburn grabbed the rebound.  Shae Sanchez stepped out of bounds with 38.6 seconds left. Jobe was fouled on the inbounds play and hit one of two free throws to pull Emporia State within a point as Washburn called timeout to advance the ball. 
 
Having a foul to give Jobe fouled Oliver with 36.4 seconds left. The Ichabods got the ball inbounds but Martin was able to tie up Hannah Willey and get the ball back to Emporia State on the alternate possession with 32.4 seconds left.  Following the jump ball Washburn coach Ron McHenry was assessed a technical foul and Jobe hit one of two to tie the game at 77.  After the free throws Jobe worked the clock under ten before making her move.  She drove the left side and pulled up just outside the lane on the baseline for the game winning jumper with 2.8 seconds left.  With no timeouts left, Washburn got the ball inbounds but Barrientos desperation heave was not close as the Lady Hornets prevailed 79-77.
 
Ehlaina Hartman led Emporia State with 21 points on seven of nine shooting while Tre'Zure Jobe scored 17 points with five assists.  They were joined in double figures by Kali Martin with 16 and Victoria Price with 12 points. 
The Lady Hornets will be back in action on Wednesday, March 2 when they take on Central Oklahoma in the first round of the MIAA Tournament presented by Citizens Bank and Trust.  Tip-off from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. is set for 2:15 p.m.
 
NOTES
With the win the Lady Hornets have guaranteed themselves a winning season for the 26th straight year.  It is the longest active streak of winning seasons in the MIAA.
Tre'Zure Jobe had two steals to give her 213 in her career and move past Kristi Nelson-Lackey (212 steals from 1986-90) for seventh on the Lady Hornet all-time list.
