February 23, 2022-The Lady Hornets put all five starters in double figures in a 93-86 win over Pittsburg State on Wednesday night in White Auditorium.
Emporia State led 7-3 three minutes into the game when Pitt State went on a 15-0 run to go up 18-7 with 2:19 left in the period. The Lady Hornets ended the quarter on a 7-2 run to get within six points headed to the second quarter.
Karsen Schultz hit at three to open the second quarter and
Victoria Price hit one of two free throws with 9:10 left to pull within 20-18. The Gorillas led 34-30 with 3:58 left when the Lady Hornets went on a 10-0 run to take a 40-34 lead on an
Ehlaina Hartman layup with 1:49 left in the half. Pitt State finished the half on a 7-2 run to make it 42-41 Hornets headed to the locker rooms.
The Lady Hornets led 54-51 at the third quarter media timeout.
Tre'Zure Jobe would score the next seven points to put Emporia State up 61-51 with 3:21 left in the period. The lead would reach 11 twice in the quarter before the Lady Hornets took a 67-58 lead into the fourth quarter. Emporia State outscored the Gorillas 25-17 during the third despite going just one of seven from the three point line in the quarter.
A pair of free throws from Price gave Emporia State an 80-72 lead with 4:38 left in the game when Pitt State made their final run. The Gorillas went on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to one at 82-81 with 2:22 left. Price answered with a driving layup to put the Lady Hornets back up by three points with 2:04 left. Two free throws from Jayme Jackson made it a one point game again with 1:46 left. Hartman then delivered the dagger, hitting a three-pointer with 1:23 remaining to make it a two possession game. Emporia State then hit six of six free throws in the final 1:02 to secure the 93-86 victory.
Victoria Price and
Kali Martin both scored career highs to lead the Lady Hornets. Price finished with 26points and seven rebounds while Martin scored 23 points.
Ehlaina Hartman scored 18 points while
Tre'Zure Jobe and
Karsen Schultz each scored 13 points.
Laura Garcia Laffitte saw her first action in five games and had four rebounds and two blocked shots.
The Lady Hornets will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 26 against Washburn in WL White Auditorium. Tip-off for the Senior Day Turnpike Tussle is set for 1:30 p.m.
