February 18, 2022-Men's basketball coach
Craig Doty has announced that Royal Valley HS guard Nahcs Wahwassuck will be attending Emporia State next year and playing for the Hornets. He joins Lawrence Free State HS guard Jordan Brown in the Hornets recruiting class for next year.
Wahwassuck is a 6-5 guard from Mayetta, Kan. He is averaging 18.1 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals a game this year for the Panthers. Â
"We started to recruit Nahcs last summer and have had a chance to follow him on his path," said Doty. "As a 6-5 point guard he fits exactly what we want to do in terms of being big at the guard spot. He has the ability to see the floor and manage a game by distributing the basketball, by scoring himself, or by just being a leader. The ability to do all three is why we are so excited about him. "
Wahwassuck is a two-time First-Team Class 3A All-State selection by the Topeka Capital Journal, Wichita Eagle and Sports In Kansas. He is the Royal Valley HS career record holder with over 1,200 points, 250 assists and 200 steals.
"He comes from an incredible family and we've really gotten to know them throughout the recruiting process." said Doty. "They really embrace their heritage and culture. What Nohcs and his whole family bring to the table from a cultural standpoint is going to add so much value to our whole University and our men's basketball program and is another reason we are so excited about him."
The Hornets are currently 18-6 on the season and 13-5 in the MIAA. They play at Missouri Western on Saturday night with tip off set for 7:00 p.m. in St. Joseph, Mo. Â
