Lady Hornets Suffer First MIAA Loss against Griffons

Emporia State falls 82-74 against Missouri Western

December 19, 2022 – Emporia State fell to Missouri Western 82-74 on Monday afternoon from White Auditorium.

Emporia State struggled in the early stages as Missouri Western scored the first nine points of the game as they eventually built an 18-7 lead in the first quarter.

The Lady Hornets responded with a 10-0 run to close the quarter which included six points from Tre'Zure Jobe and two points from both Faith Paramore and Sidney Tinner.

The second quarter began in similar fashion to the first as the Griffons put together a 15-2 run as they built a 33-19 lead, their largest of the game.

The Lady Hornets returned the favor with a 17-2 run over the next six minutes to again cut the deficit to just one, 37-36, with under 30 seconds remaining in the first half. Missouri Western was able to knock down a three at the halftime buzzer to send the teams into the locker room with the Griffons leading 40-36 over the Lady Hornets.

At the half, Tre'Zure Jobe led all scorers with 20 points while five more Lady Hornets scored in the first half. As a team, the Lady Hornets shot 36.8% in the first half while the Griffons shot 55.6%. Emporia State outrebounded the Griffons 22-15 while also forcing 13 Griffon turnovers.

Following the halftime break, Emporia State put an end to the quick starts by Missouri Western as they were able take their first lead of the game with 3:19 remaining in the third quarter as Jobe knocked down a free throw.

After four consecutive points from the Griffons, the Lady Hornets outscored Missouri Western 10-4 over the final two and a half minutes to take a 59-56 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the third quarter, Tre'Zure Jobe became just the seventh Lady Hornet to reach 1,700 career points.

Missouri Western knocked down a three on the opening possession of the quarter to tie the game before Jobe hit a jumper to give the lead back to Emporia State. The Griffons were then able to score nine consecutive points as they regained the lead and built a 68-61 advantage over Emporia State.

The Lady Hornets were able to trim the deficit down to two points halfway through the quarter as Ehlaina Hartman hit a three to make the score 72-70. Emporia State was unable to inch any closer as the Griffons held off the Lady Hornets as Emporia State fell 82-74.

Tre'Zure Jobe led all scorers with a season-high 31 points. Ehlaina Hartman also reached double-figures as she added 13 for the Lady Hornets. Faith Paramore and Victoria Price led six more Lady Hornets on the scoresheet with 7 points each.

Emporia State will return to action following the holiday break as they take on Bethel College on Thursday, December 29 from White Auditorium. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
