EMPORIA STATE VOLLEYBALL WRAPS UP SEASON AT CENTRAL MISSOURI

Hornets fall 3-0 to #24 Jennies

November 5, 2022 - Emporia State fell in three sets to #24 Central Missouri in the final match of the season.

In the first set, Emporia State held a 2-1 lead after three points before the Jennies responded with seven of nine points to take a 9-4 lead over the Hornets. Emporia State eventually trimmed the deficit to two points as the Jennies led 14-12 before Central Missouri regained control as they took the first set 25-17 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. 

Early in the second set, Central Missouri took control by scoring four of the first five points of the set as they maintained the lead throughout. The Jennies claimed their largest lead of the set as they opened a 19-10 advantage over the Hornets, resulting in an Emporia State timeout. The Hornets were unable to climb back as Central Missouri took the second set 25-16.

The third set began with the Hornets scoring three of the first four points of the set before the Jennies regained their momentum from the first two sets as a 7-1 run put Central Missouri ahead 8-4. After the lead was trimmed to 9-7, the Jennies put together an 8-1 run to extend their led to 17-8 as they continued on to take the third set 25-13 and clinch the set 25-13 to win the match 3-0. 

Leah Mach led the Hornets with eight kills in the match. Aisnlee Stepp and Grace Xu combined for 17 assists as they had nine and eight respectively. Shelby Ebert led the way with 12 digs and Caydence Doebele tallied three total blocks through the middle. 

Emporia State will lose a trio of seniors and return 14 of 17 players.
