EMPORIA STATE COMPETES IN MIAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

November 5, 2022-The Emporia State men placed eighth and the women tenth at the MIAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in Joplin, Mo.
 
The Hornet men had another incredibly packed effort with their top five scorers finishing within 32 seconds of each other.  Jaime Diaz was the top finisher for Emporia State with a time of 25:07.92 to place 31^st overall.  Henry Jones ran 25:14.75 to place 34^th and finish second for the Hornets. Asher Moen was right behind him in 37^th place with at time of 25:17.88 as the third Hornet finisher.  Cody Achilles was the fourth Emporia State runner with a time of 25:25.79 to finish 42^nd and Tyler Swift ran 25:39.80 to place 47^th and round out the Hornet scoring.
 
Tayler Williams led the Emporia State women, finishing in 29^th with a time of 22:25.56 over the six kilometer course.  Hannah Showalter was the second Hornet finisher in 23:03.54 to finish in 48^th place. Irina Honc placed 61^st overall with a time of 23:27.45 to come in third for Emporia State. Catherine Lyon and Ayden Kearney rounded out the scoring for Emporia State.  Lyon ran 23:57.36 to place 75^th and Kearney had time of 24:02.23 to finish in 78^th place.
 
The Hornets will return to Joplin in two weeks for the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships on November 19.
