FIVE LADY HORNETS IN DOUBLE FIGURES AS EMPORIA STATE DEFEATS NEWMAN 82-48

January 30, 2022-The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 12-2 lead and never trailed in an 82-48 victory over Newman on Sunday in White Auditorium.
 
Emporia State shot 62.5% from the field in the opening quarter as they led 23-10 after one.  The Lady Hornets then opened the second quarter on a 6-3 run to go up 29-13 with 7:48 left in the half. They would extend the lead to 20 on a Kali Martin three-pointer with 2:14 left before settling for a 47-28 lead at the break. 
 
Ehlaina Hartman and Victoria Price hit back to back three pointers to open the second half and give Emporia State a 53-28 lead with 7:42 left in the third. The Lady Hornets would outscore the Jets 13-12 in the third to lead 60-40 going to the final period.
 
Newman cut the deficit to 16 points with 7:16 left when Emporia State went on a 17-0 run and take a 79-46 lead with 3:15 left.
 
Karsen Schultz had 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lead five Lady Hornets in double figures.  She was joined by Victoria Price with 14 points, Tre'Zure Jobe with 13 while Ehlaina Hartman and Fredricka Sheats each scored ten points.
 
The Lady Hornets will be back in action on Thursday, February 3 at Northeastern State.  Tip-off from the NSU Events Center in Tahlequah, Okla. is set for 5:30 p.m.
