LADY HORNETS CANNOT COMPLETE COMEBACK IN 74-71 LOSS TO UCO

Emporia State scores final eight points of game

January 26, 2022-The Lady Hornets closed the game on an 8-0 run but could not get over the hump in a 74-71 loss to Central Oklahoma on Wednesday night in White Auditorium. 
 
Emporia State led 17-16 after the first quarter as they outscored UCO 6-2 over the final 1:51 of the period. 
 
The Bronchos opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run to go up 25-17 with 5:48 left in the half.  The Lady Hornets closed to within one at 29-28 with 2:59 left on Ehlaina Hartman's old fashioned three-point play. UCO pushed the lead back to seven before Hartman hit a three-pointer with 28 seconds left to make it 40-36 at the half.
 
The third quarter saw the Bronchos outscore Emporia State 23-16 as they took a 13 point lead with 1:24 left in the period. They would take their biggest lead of the night at 68-54 with 8:00 left in the game. 
 
Caley Young scored from just outside the paint with 1:06 left to give UCO a 74-63 lead.  It would be the last points of the game for the Bronchos.  Jobe drew a foul and hit two free throws with 56 seconds left to get the lead to single digits.  Brooke Rayner missed two free throws with 34 seconds left before Victoria Price scored on a put back with 23 seconds remaining.  After a Broncho timeout Jobe stole the ball and fed Hartman for a lay-up to make it 74-69 with 17 seconds left.  Taylor Dement was called for an offensive foul on the inbounds and Hartman hit a driving layup with 11 seconds left to pull Emporia State within three.  UCO was able to play keep away the final 11 seconds to secure the 74-71 win.
 
Ehlaina Hartman led Emporia State with 23 points while Karsen Schultz added 13 points.
 
Emporia State is back in action on Sunday, January 30 against Newman. Tip-off is now set for 11:00 a.m.
