January 15, 2022-Another cold shooting game cost the Lady Hornets in an 86-63 loss at Missouri Southern on Saturday afternoon in Joplin, Mo. Emporia State shot just29.9% from the field in the loss.

The Lions were hot from the field in the first quarter, going nine of 17 from the field and four of eight from beyond the three-point line. The Lady Hornets were just three of 15 from the field in the opening ten minutes as MSSU led 24-11 after one period.

The Lady Hornets had a better defensive effort in the second quarter, holding the Lions to just 35% shooting for the period. However the shooting woes continued for Emporia State as they went just one of ten from beyond the three point line and trailed 45-25 at the break.

Emporia State continued the defensive pressure in the third quarter, holding Missouri Southern to just 22.2 from the field. A 9-2 run capped by a
Tre'Zure Jobe free throw pulled the Lady Hornets within59-44 with 1:33 left in the period. Southern hit two free throws with 6.6 seconds left to make it 61-44 headed to the fourth quarter.

Missouri Southern scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to take a 65-44 lead with 8:54 left. The Lady Hornets would not get closer than 18 the rest of the way.

Fredricka Sheats had a team high 14 points and was joined in double figures by
Tre'Zure Jobe with 11 and
Victoria Price with ten points.Â
Karsen Schultz had eight points and a team high ten rebounds.

The Lady Hornets are back in action on Saturday, January 22 at Washburn. Tip-off for the Topeka edition of the Turnpike Tussle is set for 1:30 p.m.
