September 26, 2021 –
Mackenzie Dimarco scored for #5 Emporia State in the first half to give the Hornets a 1-0 win over Fort Hays State on a windy Sunday afternoon at the ESU Pitch.
The wind made things difficult for Emporia State early on. After 10 minutes without a look at goal,
Mackenzie Dimarco received the ball near midfield and raced past four Tigers before putting the ball past the keeper into the bottom right corner to put the Hornets up 1-0.
The Hornets outshot the Tigers 4-2 in the first half and held onto the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Emporia State struggled to create attacking opportunities with their best chance in the box coming off a shot from
Kyleigh Roe that went over the crossbar.
The Hornets defense controlled much of the game and limited the Tigers to only one shot on goal that came in the last minute of the match.
With the win Emporia State improves to 7-0-1 and is now 1-0 in conference play. They will be back in action next Friday as they take on Missouri Western at 6:00 p.m. in St. Joseph, MO.
