EMPORIA STATE SOCCER IMPROVES TO 4-0 WITH WIN AT COLORADO CHRISTIAN

Hornets get 4-0 win

September 12, 2021-For the third time in four matches this season the Emporia State soccer team scored at least four goals and posted their second shutout on Sunday with a 4-0 win at Colorado Christian.
 
Mackenzie Dimarco got the scoring started when she beat the keeper one on one from ten yards out off a through ball from Hannah Woolery in the 13th minute.
 
Haley Sparks scored her first collegiate goal in the 31st minute on another assist from Woolery to send the Hornets to the half with a 2-0 lead.
 
Dimarco started the second half scoring ten minutes into the second half when she split the defenders off an assist from Angie Palmer as Emporia State went up 3-0 in the 55th minute.
 
Anna Burnett ended the scoring with an unassisted goal with under 20 minutes left that led to whole sale substitutions for both teams as the Hornets went up 4-0.
 
For the match Emporia State outshot Colorado Christian 18-6 with a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Hornets had six corner kicks in the match, with five in the second half, compared to just one for the Cougars.
 
The next action for Emporia State will be a non-conference match at Fort Hays State on Friday, September 17.  Kick-off in Hays, Kan. is set for 7:00 p.m.
 
NOTES
The four wins to open the season is the best start to a season in the 20 year history of the program.
