September 17, 2021-Sixth ranked Emporia State outshot Fort Hays State 12-9 after the half, but could not get a second goal in a 1-1 tie in Hays, Kan. on Friday night.

Emporia State got on the board first on a goal with 25:07 left in the first half. Fort Hays State was called for a hand ball in the penalty area.Â
Hannah Woolery took the penalty kick and it was deflected by Tiger keeper Deonna Wellbrock. Woolery followed her shot and was able to put the rebound back in the lower right hand side of the goal to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. It was just the second goal FHSU has given up this season.

It would remain 1-0 at the half as Emporia State was outshot 7-6 in the opening 45 minutes. It was the first time this season the Hornets had been outshot in the first half.

The Tigers would tie the game in the 63
rd minute when Amanda Rapaduski took a pass from Emily Hutchings and went around two defenders before taking a shot from inside the penalty arc that rolled past
Tori Bailey in goal for the Hornets. Emporia State would outshoot FHSU 4-2 the rest of the half but could not find the net as the teams went to overtime.

The Hornets outshot the Tigers 3-1 in the first overtime, with all of them on goal, but could not get the ball in the goal. Emporia State had a 3-2 advantage in the second overtime. The Hornets two best chances came when
Haley Sparks had a shot on goal 52 seconds into the final frame and then again with under six minutes left.Â
Ashlyn Lakin took a free kick from about 50 yards out that was on target. Wellbrock knocked the ball down but could not secure it, and although three Hornets were around the ball in the goal area, the Tigers were able to clear it.

Emporia State ended up outshooting Ft. Hays State 18-15 with a 9-7 advantage on goal. Â

The Hornets are back in action on Sunday when they make their home debut against Washburn. Kick-off for the Turnpike Tussle is set for 2:00 p.m.
