April 9, 2021-The Emporia State tennis teams battled regionally ranked Southern Arkansas on Friday with the women falling 4-3 and the men 6-1 at the EHS Courts.

The women had a 1-0 lead after doubles as
Karen Santiago Sanchez and
Cyrielle Peyroche won 6-1 at the #2 spot while
Kelsie Burr and Silvana Caceras won 7-6 at the #1 position. Peyroche won 6-4, 7-5 at #2 singles and
Colby Fugit picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at #6 to give the Hornets a 3-1 lead. The final three matches all went to a third set with Southern Arkansas prevailing in all three to take the 4-3 victory.

For the men
Theo Belmonte and
Harrison Brown won 6-4 at #2 to even the doubles play before
Pablo Carenza and
Luiz Maia fell in a tiebreaker at #2 as the Muleriders took the point for a 1-0 advantage going to singles. Belmonte won 6-3, 6-0 at #6 singles for the only point of the dual for Emporia State although
Andy Graf took #3 singles to a third set before falling 11-9.

The Emporia State women are scheduled to be back in action at 1:00 p.m. Saturday against #4 Central Oklahoma on the EHS Courts. The men are off until they travel to McPherson on Tuesday, April 13 to take on the McPherson College Bulldogs.
