EMPORIA STATE TENNIS TRIPPED UP IN TOPEKA EDITION OF TURNPIKE TUSSLE

Hornets lose to nationally ranked Washburn teams

March 28, 2021-The Emporia State tennis teams both fell at nationally ranked Washburn on Sunday afternoon in Topeka.
 
The Hornet men did not win a set in the 7-0 loss to the #19 Ichabods.  Andy Graff and Taylor Nelson fell 6-2 at #1 doubles and won the only games during doubles for Emporia State. Nelson had the closest match in singles, falling 6-3, 6-2 at #2 singles.
 
The Emporia State women also fell 7-0 to the #18 Ichabods.   Cyrielle Peyroche and Karen Santiago Sanchez had the best showing with a 7-5 loss at #2 doubles. Emma Biggs won the first set at #6 singles 6-1 before falling 6-3 in the second and 14-12 in the third set tiebreaker.
 
Both teams will be back in action on Friday, April 2 at home against Newman.  First serve for their MIAA home opener is set for 10:30 a.m. on the EHS Courts.
