March 22, 2021-Both the Emporia State men's and women's team finished their non-conference road trip to Nebraska unblemished after finishing up with wins at Midland University in Fremont, Neb. on Monday. The women won 7-0 while the men picked up a 5-2 victory.
The women rolled to a 7-0 victory at the Fremont YMCA. They only dropped one game during doubles action and did not lose a set in singles action.
Karen Santiago Sanchez and
Cyrielle Peyroche continued their hot play to start the season. Santiago Sanchez won 6-0, 6-1 over Elyse Splichal while Peyroche won 6-2, 6-0 over Madison Kersigo at #2 singles as both moved to 5-0 on the season. The duo also improved to 5-0 in doubles action with a 6-0 win at #2 doubles.
The men fought their way to a 5-2 win over the Warriors to improve to 6-0 on the season. The Hornets won two of three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead.
Taylor Nelson, who was named MIAA-GAC North Division Player of the Week this afternoon, started singles play with a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) win at #2 singles to improve to 5-1 on the year.
Andy Graff gave the Hornets a 3-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #3 singles.
Harrison Brown clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-3 win at #4 singles to improve to 6-0 on the season.
Theo Belmonte matched the 6-0 start with a 6-0, 6-4 win at #6 singles.
Emporia State will begin conference play this weekend when they travel to Northwest Missouri on Saturday and Washburn on Sunday. First serve from Maryville, Mo. is set for 1:00 p.m. on March 27 and 11:00 a.m. in Topeka on March 28.
