December 8, 2021-Emporia State put all five starters in double figures in a 75-62 victory over Newman on Wednesday night in Wichita, Kan.

Tray Buchanan, the nation's leading scorer entering tonight's game, score the first six points of the game as Emporia State jumped out to an 8-0 lead just two minutes into the game. Buchanan gave the Hornets their biggest lead of the half a 31-19 with 1:16 left before the Jets ended the period on a 6-0 run to make it 31-25 at the break.

Peyton Rogers-Schmidt hit a three out of the break to push Emporia State's lead back to nine points before Newman went on a 7-0 run to pull within 34-32 with 17:46 left. Leading by three Rogers-Schmidt hit a three pointer with 15:00 left, then got a steal and fed Buchanan who was fouled as the teams went to the under 15 media timeout. He made the free throw out of the timeout to push the Hornets lead back to nine points.

Stevie Strong got an old fashioned three of his own with 12:07 left to pull the Jets within 47-41. Emporia State then went on an 11-0 run to take control of the game. Buchanan gave the Hornets their biggest lead of the night at 58-41 with 9:28 remaining. Newman would not get closer than nine points the rest of the night.

Peyton Rogers-Schmidt and
Mayuom Buom each had 11 while
Kaden Evans added ten points. Buom had a game high nine rebounds with Evans dishing six assists.
