December 2, 2021-A 10-1 game ending run by #21 Neb.-Kearney resulted in a 59-58 loss by the Lady Hornets on Thursday night in White Auditorium.
Emporia State started off hot as they jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. A
Karsen Schultz three-pointer made it 14-4 with 3:02 left in the period and the Lady Hornets led 16-10 after the first.
The Lopers used a 10-0 run in the second quarter to take a 28-25 lead with 3:11 left in the half. Emporia State answered with an 8-1 run to the half.
Christina Walsh scored the first four points of the run as the Lady Hornets took a 33-29 lead to the break.
Kali Martin hit a three to start the second half and give Emporia State a seven point lead. UNK cut the lead to on with 7:20 left in the period but
Tre'Zure Jobe hit a free throw followed by back to back three-pointers from Schultz and
Fredricka Sheats to go back up by eight at 43-35 with 4:33 left in the third. Trinity Law hit one of three free throws at the end of the third to pull UNK within 46-43 headed to the fourth.
Jobe hit a step back three pointer with 5:45 left in the game and then hit two free throws with 5:07 left to give the Lady Hornets a 57-49 lead. The three-pointer would be the last made field goal for Emporia State. Elisa Backes started the Loper comeback with a driving layup at the 3:39 mark and Haley Simental hit back to back three-pointers to tie the game at 57 with 56 seconds left.
Emily Weathers hit one of two free throws with 46 seconds left to give the Lady Hornets a 58-57 lead. Brooke Carlson then got loose in the paint to give the Lopers a 59-58 lead. She was fouled but missed the free throw to keep it a one point game. Jobe missed a jumper with six seconds left and ESU fouled three times in the next three seconds to get the Lopers to the free throw line with 3.1 seconds left. Simental missed both free throws to give Emporia State a chance. Schultz got a look from the top of the key but it came up just short as the Lopers completed the 59-58 win.

Karsen Schultz had four steals for the Lady Hornets.
Emporia State is back in action on Saturday when they play host to top ranked Fort Hays State. Tip-off in White Auditorium is set for 1:30 p.m.

nd on the Lady Hornets all-time scoring list and now has 1,172 points.
Saturday's game against Fort Hays State will be the tenth time the Lady Hornets have taken on the top ranked team in the nation and the first time since defeating then #1 Gannon 97-94 in overtime in the 2010 Final Four.
The Lady Hornets are 1-1 at home against teams ranked #1 at the time, defeating Washburn 67-60 on January 5, 2005 and falling 72-70 to Washburn on January 11, 2006.
