LADY HORNETS BATTLE TO 66-59 WIN OVER NORTHEASTERN STATE

Jobe and Sheats with 17 points for ESU

December 18, 2021-The Lady Hornets put three players in double figures on the way to a 66-59 victory over Northeastern State on Saturday night in White Auditorium.
 
The RiverHawks led by as many as six in the first quarter when Maleeah Langstaff hit a pair of free throws to give Northeastern State a 13-7 lead with 6:43 left.  The Lady Hornets ended the half on an 18-7 run and took a 25-20 lead on Fredricka Sheats three-pointer with 31 seconds left.
 
Emporia State used a 12-0 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 31-20 with 7:47 left in the half. The Lady Hornets still led by 11 with 1:46 left in the half on a Kali Martin Layup before the RiverHawks closed the half on a 5-0 run to make it 38-32 headed to the locker rooms.
 
Northeastern State extended the run to 9-0 to start the second half and pulled to within 38-36 with 9:21 left in the third quarter. Sheats scored inside then got a steal that led to a Karsen Schultz layup to put Emporia State back up by six at 42-36 with 8:12 left in the quarter.  The RiverHawks would pull to within two points three more times in the quarter, the last on a three-pointer from Ashton Hackler with 25 seconds left as the Lady Hornets led 51-49 going to the fourth quarter.
 
Tre'Zure Jobe scored the first four points of the final quarter for Emporia State and Northeastern would not get closer than four points the rest of the game.  Two free throws from Schultz gave the Lady Hornets a 55-64 lead with 27 seconds left.
 
Tre'Zure Jobe and Fredricka Sheats each scored 17 points while Karsen Schultz added 12 points for Emporia State. Emily Weathers had a career high 12 rebounds to go with eight points.
 
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Monday afternoon when they play host to Rogers State. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. in White Auditorium.
 
NOTES
With 17 points Tre'Zure Jobe now has 1,247 points and passed Aneta Kausaite (1,246 pts from 1996-98) to move into 20th on the Lady Hornet career scoring list.
