LADY HORNETS OPEN SEASON WITH 86-68 WIN OVER HARDING IN JOPLIN

Five Lady Hornets in dobule figures in win

November 12, 2021-The Lady Hornets hit eight of 14 three-pointers in the second half on their way to an 86-68 win over Harding in Joplin, Mo. on Friday afternoon.
 
Emporia State used a 10-1 run to take a 15-6 lead with 3:45 left in the first quarter.  The lead would grow to 13 in the opening minutes of the second quarter when a Victoria Price layup with 8:35 left gave the Lady Hornets a 27-14 lead. 
 
The Bisons would use a 15-2 run to take a 33-31 lead with 1:11 left in the half before Tre'Zure Jobe scored with 33 seconds left to send the teams to the lockerrooms tied at 33.
 
After the Lady Hornets went up 38-37 on a three-pointer from Ehlaina Hartman, Harding used a 10-2 run to take their biggest lead of the afternoon at 47-40.   The Bisons still led 53-49 with 2:32 left in the third when Emporia State went on a 13-0 run to take a 62-53 lead with 8:41 left in the game. After Jacie Evans broke the run with a pull up jumper at the 8:20 mark, the Lady Hornets went on a 9-0 run to take a 71-55 lead with 6:35 left. 
 
The lead would eventually reach 21 points before the Lady Hornets settled for the 86-68 victory.
 
Tre'Zure Jobe and Karsen Schultz shared team high honors for the Lady Hornets with 17 points. They were joined in double figures by Fredricka Sheats with 12, Kali Martin with 11 and Victoria Price with ten points.  Price led Emporia State with six rebounds and three steals. 
 
For the game Emporia State shot 54.2% from the field and converted 12 of 26 three-pointers. They also hit ten of 12 free throws. 
 
The Lady Hornets will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Henderson State. Tip-off from the Leggett & Platt Center in Joplin, Mo is set for 1:00 p.m.
 
NOTES
With her 17 points Tre'Zure Jobe moved past Casey Cookson (1,017 points from 1990-94) and Kristie Nelson-Lackey (1,028 points from 1986-90) into 30th place on the Lady Hornets career scoring list with 1,032 points.
