October 29, 2021 - Emporia State Volleyball took on Newman Friday night from Wichita, Kan. The Jets took the match from the Hornets 3-0.
In the first set, Emporia State made things difficult for Newman, never allowing the Jets to open up much of a lead. Despite the close play, Newman took the first set 25-21 over the Hornets.
The second set was different for the Hornets as the fell behind early. After grabbing a 7-5 lead over Emporia State, Newman went on a 12-3 run to open their lead to 19-8. The Jets took the second set 25-12 over the Hornets.
In the third set, the Hornets struggled early on, falling behind the Jets 9-1. Emporia State responded with some better play from this point but could never catch Newman as they won the set 25-18 and the match 3-0 over the Hornets.
Leah Mach led the way with 9 kills for the Hornets. Ainslee Stepp tallied 14 assists and Rylie Fornelli racked up 16 digs in defense.
Emporia State will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Edmond, Oklahoma to take on Central Oklahoma. The match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Hamilton Field House.
