EMPORIA STATE FALLS IN FOUR SETS TO CENTRAL OKLAHOMA

Hornets fall 3-1 in road tilt against Bronchos

October 30, 2021 – Emporia State traveled down I-35 to take on Central Oklahoma Saturday afternoon in Edmond, Oklahoma. The Hornets fell to the Bronchos 3-1.

The first set was led for the most part by Emporia State. The Hornets opened an 18-11 lead over the Bronchos which was their largest lead of the afternoon. Central Oklahoma fought back into the match, but the Hornets were able to hold them off, winning the first set 25-22.

In the second set, the script was flipped on the Hornets with Central Oklahoma taking an early 11-3 lead and a 18-8 later in the set. Emporia State was unable to make up much ground on the Bronchos with Central Oklahoma taking the second set 25-12.

The third set started with Central Oklahoma taking seven of the first eight points and riding their momentum for the remainder of the set. The Bronchos would win the set 25-12.

In the fourth set, Emporia State responded to the previous two sets with a strong start. The Hornets opened a 8-5 lead over the Bronchos and led as late as 12-11 in the set. The
Bronchos would score 12 of the next 15 points to gain a 23-15 advantage over the Hornets. Central Oklahoma took the fourth set 25-18 and the match 3-1 over Emporia State.

Leah Mach reached double-digit kills and the led the way 10 on the afternoon. Riley Bernskoetter tallied 16 assists while Ainslee Stepp added 15 of her own. Rylie Fornelli recorded 17 assists to lead the Hornets.

Emporia State will return to the court next weekend as they continue their road trip against Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State. The Hornets are scheduled to take on Missouri Southern on Friday, November 5th. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
